"Sometimes We Just want to be heard" - Jonathan Greene
Want to be heard? Non-judgementally? By another student from your own student community? You
can
now reach out to "Student Listeners" who have volunteered and trained themselves to receive by
listening.
I helped a friend get through a major L in his life by just listening. If I can help
more, I would be glad.
-Raaed
I'm here to actively listen to your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, offering
support and understanding along the way. My goal is to help you feel heard and
valued, fostering a sense of connection and well-being.
-Pranavi
I realized that being heard was something a lot of us long for. I also enjoy knowing
about others, their views and to look at things from someone else's shoes. Hope to
play a small part in having an environment where we are free to share and let things
off our chest.
- denjay
I hail from a small village in Uttar Pradesh, and am the first engineer from the
area, the first MBA and also the first IITian. All my teenage and early adulthood I
had no one around me to share my thoughts with, no one to hear me out and make me
feel heard, this platform gives me the opportunity to make sure that you don't have
to go through the same. Come, let's talk !
- Divyanshu
In this disruptive world where people want to feel heard, finding someone who
"actually" listens can be challenging. Hi! I am Jasmin, offering you a secure,
non-judgemental space where you can openly and fearlessly share your thoughts and
feelings..
- Justin
I consider myself as calm and self collected person. I like to listen to people to
know more about the world and the people and their perspectives on different things.
Listening to them and making yourself present to them helps a lot in regaining
control on life for them as well as myself and that is my intention to be a listener
- Rohith
I'm a first year UG student in the B.Tech Engineering Physics programme. Since a long
time, I've been fascinated by listening to people having quite distinct perspectives
about the same experience. I consider myself to be a fine listener, and I'd be
extremely happy if I'm able to help someone out through this club, which provides a
nice opportunity for me to achieve both of the above.
- Dhruv
The primary motivation for joining the Listener's Club is to provide support and
empathy to individuals in need. Through my own experiences, I've noticed that
despite having many friends on social networks, many of us still feel lonely.
Sometimes, we simply need someone to listen to us without judgment. I aim to offer
that support to the IITM student community.
- Bidhan
I am Rahul Manohar, third year integrated MA student from hs department. I wanted to
become a listener because I believe that this is part of a large journey. We need to
start this culture soon. People are coming to campus from different parts of India
they will face different challenges, someone should be there to listen to the
concerns.
-Rahul
I am Sivathmika, a final year undergraduate from the Department of Chemical
Engineering. I am from Andhra Pradesh. Last semester was a tough one for me
considering placements and personal issues that were going on and just wanted
someone to listen to me without any judgement. I couldn't find one but I want to be
one for someone out there. This will also help me become more empathetic and
understand others well.
- Mika
I'm a third year undergraduate student in the department of biotechnology. I love
listening to people and understanding new perspectives in general. Moreover, many a
time, having felt the need for a non-judgemental and unbiased listener myself, I'd
be happy to lend an ear to my fellow insti junta in times of need.
-Shreya
I think I always wanted to be listened by the people who are close to me or even a
stranger but I always found people don't really listen to you if you start talking
to them they start with their own stuff, problems and stories. I think listening is
more important than talking to someone be it's a friendship, relationship or some
professional thing.
- VED
I am more comfortable as a listener than a speaker. I understand that the feeling of
being heard is very important in this fast paced environment. So I wanted to
contribute as much as I can!
-Sume
Born and raised in Hyderabad, I've found my peace and purpose in two distinct yet
profoundly interconnected practices: Vipassana meditation and long-distance running.
My journey into running began out of sheer curiosity, but it quickly evolved into a
passion for ultra marathons and 12-hour stadium runs. These experiences are not just
physical challenges but spiritual journeys, allowing me to listen deeply to my inner
self, fostering a sense of happiness and fulfillment. Through Vipassana, I've
embraced the principles of gratitude and living in the present moment, recognizing
them as the true sources of happiness. My intention to be a listener stems from a
desire to extend this personal journey outward, offering a space for others to share
and explore their own paths. I believe that by listening, I can continue to learn
and, in turn, help others find their peace and happiness.
-Anil
As a fourth-year PhD student, my academic journey has instilled in me an appreciation
for understanding diverse perspectives. Having experienced various phases of student
life, I have also come to realise the importance of listening attentively. Thus, I
am eager to contribute to the community by lending my attention to anyone who wishes
to share.
-Abinash
I understand the power of being a listener, because I haven't been so, in my
childhood. At those times, I had been an introvert, not speaking to anyone, and
constrained to my own thoughts, and ideals. Listening, according to me, is a way by
which we can get to know outside world, and update and refine them, to the best, so
as to help others, and ourselves.
- Larsen
Hi, I am Malavika, a fourth year student in the Humanities Department.
We at IITM are a close-knit community, but life here is certainly not a bed of
roses. All of us are fighting our battles on a daily basis and sometimes it can get
overwhelming. And that is when we look for a vent for all our pent-up emotions. As
someone who has been in such situations, I know how important yet difficult it is to
find a person who patiently listen to your woes. Once you talk it out, the resulting
relief makes a huge difference in the journey ahead.
That is why I would be more than happy to be that person in your life who you can
turn to. Whether you are reeling under surmounting pressure, staring uncomfortably
at uncertainty or just want to chat about life in general, I am here to listen. I
promise to be a reliable friend who shall keep your secrets and listen to you
without being judgemental. Reach out to me when in need and I will certainly make
time for you.
-Malavika
I initially wanted to be a listener as people don't listen to me and I felt I am also
probably a bad listener.
But I have realized I am a speaker, I love speaking (not like in public just with
friends and classmates) and listening is tough as I have seen when trying to listen
I find it very difficult to not be able to express my opinion and just listen. Now I
am just curious how much can listening change me who loves to express my opinion and
what is listening?
- Harshitha
Hey there, I'm Dharani! - dual degree student of 20b in Mechanical Engineering and
Data Science.
I love to listen to music and read about new things, and I'm always curious to meet
new people and learn something about their lives. I'm usually up for getting dessert
or trying another weird drink at CoolBiz, and I really love random conversations -
so hit me up if you ever feel like sharing something :)
I firmly believe that one conversation could be the key turning point between two
very different outcomes. I wish to increase your chances of that happening, even if
only by a very marginal amount. As a listener, I promise I'll lend you my ear with
full respect and without any judgment, so don't hesitate to reach out!
Looking forward to hearing from you :)

Hi,
My name is Siva (I sign off as anbudan Siva).
Come April, we start to find that so many things pile up whether
they are
unfinished
assignment, deadlines to meet, things to learn, it seems to keep
pouring
endlessly.
Time suddenly seems to have shrunken. Not knowing what to do, we
start to borrow
from our essentials such as sleep, food and exercise. But, this
loan
becomes
surmounting and we feel caught in anxiety, fear of failure and
so
on.
These things happen to all of us. It is at that time we turn
back to
find if
there
is someone in our lives who would have the ears to listen to us.
But, this part
of
the semester, most are busy and therefore, you are desperately
trying to find
someone to talk to. You wish to pour out all those feelings you
have. You badly
want
to get it out. CONSIDER ME. I will make a sincere attempt to be
a
listener.
You don't have to worry that I am this or that. Note that when I
listen to you,
I
will remove all those hats that I wear and put on just an active
listener's hat.
It's a promise. Also is a promise that what I hear will be kept
completely
confidential. Trust me on this.
It could be anxiety, it could be fear, it could be anger, it
could
be a feeling
of
helplessness, it could be a hurt.
Listening has the power to heal. And I can be that listener. You
just have to
contact me through WhatsApp 94452 84085.
Not that I have a lot of time to spare but I will make time.
Believe
me.
anbudan,
Siva.
Hi everyone,
From 1982 to 1986, I got my B. Tech in mechanical engineering
and
lived at Godav
the whole time. I had the privilege of being the Hostel Affairs
Secretary (HAS)
during my last year.
My second time at this great school was from 2016 to 2022, when
I
worked on my
PhD in the Department of Management Studies in the field of data
analytics for
public policy while I was still in the Indian Police
Service.
Now that I'm retired from the Indian Police Service, where I
worked
for more
than 30 years in different roles in Tamil Nadu and for
organizations
like the
CBI and the UN, I've come back to this institution in a new job
as a
Professor
of Practice.
I am here to offer my support and a listening ear to address any
concerns or
challenges you may be facing, whether they relate to personal
matters, career
decisions, or issues involving colleagues, faculty, or staff.
Please
don't
hesitate to reach out to me, and I will do my utmost to assist
you.
Warm regards,

Hi,
My name is Sridhar.
I graduated from BTCE in 1991. I stayed in Jamuna
hostel.
I, along with other alumni, co-teach a GN course called
Happiness,
Habits and
Success. Teaching this course for the past four years has given
me a
very close
insight into what students go through. Bringing up two daughters
that are almost
your age is another form of connection to issues that you are
facing.
Seeing how our interactions through this course benefits
students, I
sincerely
appreciate the opportunity to be a listener and to help.
The issues that students are facing are as varied as the diverse
student body
that we have. Each person deals with the same issue differently
because of their
personality, background and upbringing. Thus, my listening will
necessarily be
tailored to the individual.
Sometimes, just listening, is all that it takes for the other
person
to work out
what needs to be done and I am happy to do that. Sometimes, it
needs
to be
combined with careful conversation, and I will try my
best.
If there is something/anything that is bothering you and would
like
to talk,
please feel free to reach out to me at 94449 00395.
Regards,
Sridhar
Hi,
My name is Akshar. I was also a student at IIT M. During my time
at
IIT, I found
someone who listened to my anger and anxiety. I was one of those
students who
sailed through the sea of challenges and now floating in the
ocean
with an
abundance of positive buoyancy but anchored at sea bed with
massive
chains to
keep me humble and focused. My poetry on the ocean is the clue
for
my department
at IIT M 😊.
About listening, here I am to listen and not judge. Listening
helps,
and I have
been listening in my previous profession as a university
lecturer. I
know it is
powerful. I will listen if you give me a chance. That is my
promise!
You can contact me on WhatsApp at +44 7424914823 (unfortunately
I
lag by nearly
5hrs 😊).
Regards,
Akshar

Hi friends,
My name is Keshav, and I am an alumnus of IITM from the Civil
Engineering and
Applied Mechanics departments. As one of you, I am aware of the
pressure that
builds up over the semester. If you want someone to vent to or
just
talk to, I
am here for you. I will simply sit and listen to you. I will
keep
everything you
tell me confidential*.
I also want you to know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I know sometimes
it
can feel
that way, but I can promise you that we are never alone. It may
seem
daunting to
reach out to someone to talk about our problems, an unfamiliar
person like me
nonetheless, but I want to assure you that I will be here to
listen
to you.
Whatever you want to talk about – stress, anxiety, heartbreak –
feel
free to
open up to me. Just venting to someone else can help us feel
that a
burden has
been lifted off our shoulders, and we will feel lighter. Please
consider me if
you want to vent. Just reach out to me over email at
keshav.ravi@gmail.com or on
WhatsApp at +1 541-791- 6632.
I will try my best to make time for everyone who reaches out to

*DISCLAIMER: I will keep anything you tell me confidential with
three
exceptions: (i) you state intent to commit harm to yourself or
someone else,
(ii) when you report current abuse of a vulnerable adult or
child,
and (iii)
because of a court order. That said, in the three cases
mentioned
above, I will
confidentially communicate this to a professional counsellor and
connect you to
professional help.
Dear Friends,
Greetings to you. Regardless of what you are going through and
who
you are, let
me first and foremost welcome you to reach me. I am on the
faculty
of IITM and
am always happy to be available to the campus community
(students,
faculty, and
staff). I am also a supporter of campus initiatives on diversity
and
inclusion
(such as department D & I body, support for the differently
abled
students,
Vannam student body). I work closely with several student
groups,
and enjoy
facilitating hope and growth.
I have seen students and friends face stumbling blocks, and
overcome
those
barriers more often than I can count. To share is also to grow
in
many ways. I
hope this message gives you hope and strength.
If you think you could benefit by talking to me, please do reach
me

I would be happy to meet and talk to you!
